If turnitin doesn’t notice that it’s a quotation, it will highlight it, but the academic marking it will read it and clearly see that it’s a quotation, and then ignore it. in quotation marks) it will be obvious that it’s not plagiarism, it’s just a quotation and will be ignored. If you’re citing / quoting stuff from other material it will (correctly) notice this, but assuming it’s quoted / cited and marked as such (e.g. If you’re worrying about odd sentences here or there with some paraphrasing, bluntly it’s not gonna catch it. I’m not sure specifically how many individual words can be strung together before it can consider them to be from another source (some sites say 4 words, but I don’t know or especially care what turnitin thinks directly), but I broadly wouldn’t worry about turnitin unless you’re actively plagiarising. Turnitin produces a report giving a similarity statistic as long as the overall similarity of the piece you’re submitting is low in similarity to other works it’s not gonna be an issue.
